The Republic of Ireland international is out of contract this summer but is weighing up fresh terms at the Stadium of Light.

He told Transfer Tavern: “He might be holding out for more money or he could be a little bit annoyed with how he was treated because he was exiled a little bit earlier but ultimately, that wasn’t under the manager who is there now.

“He made the League One Team of the Season this year, so even though the club is not basking in money, they do have new owners and he could want them to pay him more.”

Manager of League One rivals makes transfer admission

Danny Cowley has spoken out about Portsmouth’s attempted pursuit of Scott Twine.

The midfielder has just signed for MK Dons – but it seems Pompey’s interest was genuine.

“He plays in the left-half space, and we already have two players who play in that left-half space. He loves to come in off the left and shoot with his right foot. We have two players who do that already,” Cowley told The Portsmouth News.

“So we think a lot of Scott Twine, and he will be a really good signing for MK Dons who play 3-4-3 and like that inside 10.

“He can play as a left 10 for MK Dons and I can see him being a really good fit for them.

“I think, though, in our playing squad we already have two players in Michael Jacobs and Ronan Curtis who can play in the similar position.”
