The 25-year-old will arrive from Swansea on a three-year deal and helped Wanderers win promotion back to League One during a loan spell last season.

John didn’t make a single appearance for Sunderland during a loan spell at the Stadium of Light in 2020.

The full-back told Bolton’s website: "Feeling appreciated and wanted by Bolton Wanderers brings me huge joy and I am delighted to sign this deal.”

Another player who will be on the move this summer is defender Tom Naylor.

The 29-year-old was club captain at Portsmouth, where his contract is set to expire, but has agreed to join League One rivals Wigan for next season.

Naylor, who joined Pompey in 2018, had been in negotiations about staying at Fratton Park but has elected to move on.

The defender told Wigan’s website: "I'm over the moon. I'm buzzing, excited, and I cannot wait to get started.”
