Vice-captain James Fairley confirms Easington Colliery departure
The latest news from Northern League Division One with the new season just a week away.
Easington Colliery manager Olly Hotchkiss has paid tribute to vice-captain James Fairley after he confirmed he was leaving the Northern League Division One club.
The versatile winger initially joined the Colliers during the 2023/24 season and boosted their push for promotion into the league’s top tier. Fairley produced an eye-catching display in the Division Two play-off final when he scored once and provided an assist as Hotchkiss’ side secured promotion with a win in front of a crowd of over 1,700 at Newcastle Blue Star.

Fairley remained an integral part of the Colliers side in their first season back in Division One and he helped them crown a promising season by listing the Brooks Mileson Memorial League Cup with an impressive win against Shildon in May last year. After achieving a top ten finish in what has now become his final season with the Colliers, Fairley has confirmed his departure from the club - and the news brought a heartfelt tribute from his now-former manager.
Speaking to the club website, Colliers manager Hotchkiss said: “James came to the club during the season in Division Two and played a key role in helping us achieve promotion. He’s been a key figure on and off the field of play and contributed hugely! His performance in the play-off final was pivotal for the club and will never be forgotten. We wish James well, he and his family will always be welcome back at anytime at Welfare Park. We’ve had some unbelievable memories together and those will live long in the memory.”
Hotchkiss has been working hard to add to his squad in recent days and he has now completed the signing of former Park View midfielder Logan Herron.
Speaking after sealing the signing of the youngster, he said: “I’m absolutely thrilled with the signing of Logan. I’ve watched his rise in Northern League football with great attention and he’s exactly the type of player and character we need. His all-or-nothing attitude will drive performances and inspire those around him. He’s aggressive, full of energy and he’ll be perfect for what we need.”
