Northern League: Seaham Red Star produce best display of the season in Newcastle University win
It has been a busy weekend across both divisions of the Northern League.
Seaham Red Star assistant manager Michael Johnson praised his side for producing their best performance of the season in Saturday’s home win against Newcastle University.
Mark Collingwood’s side went into the game looking to build on their midweek win against Grangetown Boys Club - and they made no mistake thanks to a goal in each half from Thomas Lawson and Kai Charlton. Johnson believes the win could have been even more comfortable and challenged the Red Star players to back up their second consecutive win when they host Ryton and Crawcrook Albion in midweek.

He told The Echo: “It was a tremendous performance. From minute one, we dominated the game, we moved the ball well and did everything we said we needed to do. It should have been six or seven but it’s two-nil, two good goals, a clean sheet and that was the real Seaham Red Star. It’s by far our best performance of the season on and off the ball. We are delighted and the challenge is to back it up and go again next week. We thoroughly deserved the three points.”
