Allan Saint-Maximin and Jamaal Lascelles sat out Wednesday’s night’s 5-0 defeat to Manchester City, while Miguel Almiron, struggling with a thigh injury, was an unused substitute at the Etihad Stadium.

Saint-Maximin had been tired after starting five games in 15 days, while Lascelles had a sore ankle. However, all three could feature against relegation-threatened Watford tomorrow.

“We’ll know a little bit more this afternoon, but I hope Almiron, Saint-Maximin and the skipper (Lascelles) will be OK,” said head coach Bruce. “Unfortunately, the other night we had too many of our big players unavailable.”

Newcastle are 13th in the Premier League and 15 points above the relegation zone with four games left to play. The club is six points off 10th-placed Burnley. Bruce said: “We have to respond – let’s hope we can do that.”
