Conte said: “The difficulty for the teams that are going to play in Europe is also a little difficult. You can see you have to consider Newcastle for the present and for the future as a dangerous team.

“For the first position and for Champions League spots and for the fight to win trophies and for sure Newcastle needed a bit of time and they have the potential to go into the market. They did this summer and then to become one of the best teams in England and for this reason many clubs have to pay great attention and in my opinion I see Newcastle to in the future to become really really dangerous.”

Spurs, under Conte, ran out 5-1 winners in this fixture last seasons.

Saudi Arabia trip

The Magpies will play a match against Saudi Pro League champions Al-Hilal and will hope to replicate the successes of their trip to the country in January - one that helped to spark an upturn in their league form.

When asked about the proposed trip, Howe said: "A few things. First and foremost, when you look back to last year, our decision to go there, and the benefit it had for the team and the results on our return, were really good. So we got a few positive connotations from that.

“Going back to our trip last year, the weather was very good, the facilities were first class. We were able to spend some quality time together to bond the group – and really focus our energies on our battle to stay in the division.”
