The relegation-threatened club, already without Callum Wilson, will be without Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin until next month after the pair suffered injuries in Saturday’s 1-1 Premier League draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

A club statement read: “Newcastle United forwards Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin will be out of action until April after picking up injuries during the Magpies' 1-1 draw with Wolves on Saturday.

“Almiron sustained a knee injury, and had to be replaced at half time, while Saint-Maximin suffered a groin injury in the 63rd minute. Both have undergone scans, and will continue their rehabilitation with the club's medical team. Defender Emil Krafth substituted in the same game, is set to resume training later this week.”

Speaking after the game, head coach Bruce said he “feared the worst” for Almiron, who had come to the fore following the arrival of coach Graeme Jones in late January.

"The way he (Almiron) was at half-time told it all, really,” said Bruce. “As I’ve said many times before with Almiron, he’s a wonderful pro, but he was in distress with it. Let’s hope it’s not that bad.

"We’ll know more after scans – we’ll have scans fixed up to see how he is. It’s far too early to speculate about how serious it is.”

Saint-Maximin and Almiron will miss fixtures against West Bromwich Albion, Aston Villa and Brighton and Hove Albion.

Meanwhile, Wilson, sidelined with a hamstring injury, is expected to return to training later this month. The club is just three points above the relegation zone.
