Pictures from a cold Easter Monday in Sunderland and County Durham as temperatures drop

As temperatures dropped on Easter Monday, we saw a dusting of snow across parts of Wearside and County Durham – as well as some high waves at the coast.

The mini-heatwave leading up to Easter, which saw high temperatures of 18°C at the start of last week, seems like a distant memory as we woke up to frost and (in some places) snow!

Easter Monday saw high winds create big waves at Roker and Seaburn, with temperatures close to freezing point meaning snow further inland.

Temperatures are expected to remain around the 4°C mark in the coming days, with the Met Office also predicting 15ft high waves for the North East coast.
