Hide AdHelen has told the Echo she believes the council should take action to make it safer.
She said: “It’s very narrow and steep, with sharp turns. I’ve seen dozens of crashes on the road.”
“I have no idea how there hasn’t been a fatality in the last five years, I think it’s just a matter of time.
“I would like the road to go down to 30mph and possibly see speed bumps put in place or even a speed camera.”

Hide AdSunderland Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport Councillor Michael Mordey has confirmed the council are aware of the petition.
He said: “We are aware of concerns on the Tunstall Hope Road, the speed limit has been reduced from 60mph to 40mph, resulting in a marked reduction in road traffic accidents.
“We constantly monitor speeds and accident history on the city’s roads looking for accident and speeding hotspots.
“Should Tunstall Hope Road indicate that additional measures are required, they will be considered.”
