Metro passengers face rush-hour delays due to overhead line trip in Sunderland area

Nexus, which operates the Metro network, confirmed the issue on its Twitter account shortly before 8am on Tuesday, January 21.

The service reported delays of up to 30 minutes between Monument and South Hylton as a result of the problem, with some passengers reporting trains at a standstill on social media.

Metro tickets were being accepted earlier on the following Go North East and Stagecoach bus services due to the delays, according to the @My_Metro Twitter account:

No. 9 between Sunderland to Hebburn (Go North East)

No. 56 between Sunderland to Newcastle (Go North East)

No. 8 and No. 20 between South Hylton and Sunderland (Stagecoach)

Nexus confirmed at around 8.30am on Tuesday that all trains were running following the issue – but with estimated 25-minute delays – and the ticket acceptance on bus services was cancelled.
