Drivers warned over closure of A19 slip road to A690 this weekend

The southbound exit from the A19 to the A690 Durham Road junction closes from 6am tomorrow, Saturday, October 17, until 7pm on Sunday, October 18.Traffic is being diverted via Chester Road.The closure is necessary for updates including the creation of extra lanes, new signaling and improvements to the junction's drainage, fencing and kerbing.

The move comes after the southbound slip road from the A690 Durham Road junction to the A19 was closed last weekend for resurfacing works.Deputy Leader of Sunderland City Council, Coun Paul Stewart said: "This is the next stage of these important and necessary works.

"We always look to minimise disruption and so these works have been programmed over the weekend."As a council we are committed to continually upgrading and improving our highways network. I would like to thank all drivers for their patience as we complete this next stage of another important upgrade to our city's infrastructure."
