Eighteen trekkers, made up of staff at Barnes Court care home, in High Barnes, family members of residents, staff and three dogs, took part in the fundraising hike.

Wind and snow wasn’t enough to deter them from making the 1,049ft climb to the top of Roseberry Topping in North Yorkshire as they raised funds for the home and the Royal National Institute of Blind People.

The hikers then made the journey back to Barnes Court where they were greeted with a champagne reception and joined staff and residents for a welcome back party before being presented with a certificate, medal and trophy to commemorate their fundraising efforts.

The Barnes Court team raised more than £400 which will be split between The RNIB and the home’s Residents’ fund, which goes towards services such as outings and social events..

Speaking about the hike, Julie Haram, the Activities Coordinator at Barnes Court, said: “It was a really tough challenge for all of us, and the weather was certainly not on our side, but everyone made an amazing effort and raising money for the RNIB and our residents made it all worthwhile! It felt great to plant our Barnes Court flag at the top of Roseberry Topping.

Joanne Steele, manager of the home, said: “At Barnes Court we are always so proud of our staff’s willingness to demonstrate such commitment and dedication to the people that they care for and their families. We are hugely appreciative of the efforts of the families, staff and friends that look part.”
