‘So excited’ - Boldon Colliery church prepares to host its first Christmas Fair in ‘several years’

A popular Christmas Fair is returning to a Boldon Colliery church.

A Boldon Colliery church is set to host its first Christmas Fair in “several years” as its growing community boosts volunteer numbers.

St Nicholas’ Church, on Hedworth Lane, will be hosting the event on Saturday, November 7, from 10.30am until 3pm as it marks an exciting new chapter following the launch of Grace Church.

Organisers have stated that the event will be a fun-filled day for people of all ages, with a host of festive attractions, live music, games, refreshments and opportunities to support local businesses and community organisations.

‘Get into the early Christmas spirit’

Rev Paul Barker, Rector of St Nicholas’ Church, revealed that a lack of volunteer numbers has meant the fair has been postponed for a number of years but expressed his excitement at it’s return

He said: “I'm so excited about our Christmas Fair.

“This is something we haven’t been able to host for years because we simply haven’t had enough volunteers.

“But since launching Grace Church, our church family has grown, and we’ve found ourselves in the wonderful position of being able to put on a Christmas Fair once again.

“We hope the event will raise money to help our church continue to serve the community here, but, most importantly, we want it to be a wonderful occasion for everyone in Boldon Colliery and beyond – a chance for people to come together, enjoy themselves and get into the early Christmas spirit.

“So much work is going into planning the day, and I'm really looking forward to welcoming everyone.”

What to expect from the Christmas Fair

Activities will include Santa Land, where children can meet Santa, a Mario Kart tournament, a chocolate card game, various stalls, raffles, and more.

Local traders such as Red Mamma, Aboreel Art, Laurie's, Forever Aloe, and others will be on hand to showcase their wares.

The Hedworth Lane Primary School Choir will officially open the fair with a performance at 11am, followed by the South Shields People's Mission Silver Band, who will perform Christmas carols from noon until 1pm.

Visitors are also encouraged to bring a food donation to help support the local food bank.

Free parking will be available in the school playground opposite the church, with the event open to everyone.
