Northumbria Police have appealed for witnesses and particularly anybody who has dashcam footage of the incident to contact them.

A force statement said: “The car in question was spotted travelling south east along Essen Way when it drove on to the roundabout and collided with street furniture before coming to a halt.

“It was then seen leaving the roundabout before coming to a halt in a near-by garden.”

Witnesses are urged to contact the force by calling 101, quoting log 611 191020.
