Police and RNLI attend call-out at Sunderland's Wearmouth Bridge

Emergency services were called to Sunderland city centre in response to an incident on Wearmouth Bridge.

Northumbria Police attended the bridge at around 10am on Saturday and requested support from the RNLI inshore lifeboat.

A Humber Coastguard spokesman confirmed that the lifeboat had been sent out in response to a request from police.

He said: "The call came on at 10.30am. The crew were paged to assist the police with someone on the Wearmouth Bridge but the call was cancelled as the police had resolved the incident.”
