Sunderland's Voluntary Sector to celebrate community champions at Open Arms Awards

Voluntary and Community Action Sunderland (VCAS) has announced the return of its seventh annual Open Arms Awards, with this year's event set to be the biggest yet.

The awards celebrate the individuals, volunteers, trustees and organisations whose dedication and community spirit help make Sunderland a stronger, fairer and more connected city.

The awards will take place on 9 December at Sunderland Minster and will feature five new Community Champion Awards, sponsored by Sunderland City Council, recognising outstanding individuals from communities across the city.

Janette Hilton, Chief Officer of VCAS, said: "The Open Arms Awards celebrate the people and organisations who make an extraordinary difference in our communities every day. Many work quietly behind the scenes, supporting others without seeking recognition, and these awards provide an opportunity for the sector to come together and celebrate their achievements.

"The awards highlight the incredible impact of our volunteers, trustees, community leaders and organisations and recognise the difference they make to people's lives."
