Sunderland schoolboy raises more than £1000 in 12-hour charity golf day

A rising golf star has raised more than £1,100 for charity after taking part in a 54-hole charity golf day.

Twelve-year-old Joseph Newby took part in the event on Tuesday, May 26, to raise money for the Chloe & Liam Together Forever Trust and James’ Place.

The Chloe & Liam Together Forever Trust raises money to help young people follow their dreams, and was set up after South Shields couple Chloe Rutherford, 17, and Liam Curry, 19, died in the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017.

James’ Place is another charity that offers life-saving treatment to suicidal men at centres in Newcastle, Liverpool, London and Birmingham.

On Tuesday, Joseph tackled 54 holes at Boldon Golf Club to try and raise as much as possible.

His dad, Craig Newby, said: "Joseph started at 7am and finished at 7pm. He is shattered but really enjoyed the day.”

The pair would like to thank Boldon Golf Club for their hospitality and Lyndsey Holmes and Nutrition Kingz for their sponsorship.
