According to Suzanne another ghost, Peter, lives upstairs in the pub and ‘enjoys being quiet’ so has a tendency to ‘throw glasses’ when it’s too loud.

The pub was contacted by mediums after the video which captures what the landlord describes as the work of the pub’s resident ghost was posted on their social media.

During the video a full pint can be seen on a table, as well as a man sitting alongside the table, the pint is then launched onto the floor despite nobody being near it.

Helen Maddison, manager at The Victoria Gardens Pub said it’s not the first time the ghosts have been causing trouble.

She said: “There has been lots of ghost stories over the year as this building was a coach house before any of the houses were here.

"There was nobody else around when the pint fell off the table, we seem to get strange things happen in the same corner of the pub.”

Some of the pub’s historical ghost stories include other glasses being smashed, chairs moving and eerie feelings of spirits down the cellar.

Despite the spooky events, Helen and her regular customers are unphased.

Ms Maddison added: "We have a laugh about it, I don’t think anybody is too bothered by our resident ghosts.”

The nineteenth century pub re-opened last June after a refurbishment and has allegedly had it’s fair share of paranormal incidents over its years.

The Victoria Gardens Pub is not the only haunted pub in Sunderland as reports of crying, screaming and singing have been heard at The Isis on Silksworth Row, which are said to be from the victims of Mary Ann Cotton.
