Philippa Gibbons has taken social media by storm with previous creations shining a light on mental health, Remembrance Day and Christmas festivities.

But now the 21-year-old, of Amy Bam Hair & Beauty Studio in Mary Street, has used her skills to pay tribute to the key workers keeping the country running during the coronavirus pandemic.

Philippa was inspired to create the piece after seeing a drawing, by Leanne Crampton, on social media.

It features NHS staff, firefighters, supermarket workers, cleaners and teachers among its figures.

Philippa said: “Recently I have been so lost for words for what is going on in the world at the minute so I always turn to make-up to express my feelings and thoughts.

“I just wanted to say thank you to the key workers that are going out there and working on the frontline for us while we stay at home in respect to them.

“I know there are a lot more key workers than the ones on my chest but I just showed a few to say thank you to every job role that is supporting us during this time.”

As the coronavirus crisis prompted the closure of non-essential premises, including beauty salons, Philippa has taken on a job at Asda in Boldon so she can do her bit to help.

She is assisting with online orders and stacking shelves to meet increased demand.
