Lois Davidson, of Gateshead, was a passenger in a car which left the A194 and collided with a tree on Saturday, October 3, shortly after 10.30pm.

Sadly she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers were called to the crash on the A194 – between the A195 and A182 slip roads – after a silver Audi S3 was travelling westbound when, for reasons yet to be established, it left the road and collided with a tree.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances around the collision.

Family liaison officers are supporting Lois’s family who have asked for their privacy to be respected at this time.

Three others, a driver and two passengers, were taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle following the crash.

A 35-year-old male driver and 26-year-old woman remain in a critical condition in hospital following the one-vehicle collision.

A 33-year-old male passenger was also taken to hospital following the collision but has since been discharged.

Sergeant Pinner Rana, of Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols Department, said: “Our thoughts go out to Lois’ family and friends at this awful time.

“We will continue to offer them any support they need as they try to come to terms with their devastating loss.

“We are determined to get answers for Lois’ family and understand the circumstances surrounding the collision. We are therefore asking anybody with information to please come forward and speak to us.

“If you were travelling in the area at that time, check your dashcam footage and let us know if you saw a silver Audi S3. Your information, no matter how insignificant you feel it may be, could be crucial in providing Lois’ family with the answers they deserve.”

The A194 westbound was closed for more than five hours to allow crash scene investigators to assess the area and a clear-up operation to take place.
