The city is host to both Roker and Seaburn beaches where visitors can enjoy grabbing an ice-cream or some fish and chips at the seaside.

Both beaches were named as winners of prestigious Blue Flag awards by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy last month – making them two of just 76 beaches across the UK to win the award.

Some visitors to the city’s beaches looking for a little more excitement can take up paddleboarding at Roker before cooling off by having a cold pint at Grannie Annie’s.

After having fun making sandcastles, many head to the arcades to compete against friends in Seaburn.
