Inquest opens into twin brothers found dead inside Sunderland flat as inquiries continue

Inquests have been opened into the death of 63-year-old twins after their bodies were found inside a Sunderland flat.

Short hearings were held for James Davis, of Sefton Square in Springwell, followed by one for his brother Eric Davis, of Springwell Road, at Sunderland Coroner’s Court, based at the city’s civic centre.

The heard the pair had died of unnatural causes, with inquiries continuing and results of post mortem examinations pending.

Northumbria Police had been called to the address following a report of concern for two men and said they were treating the deaths as “unexplained” but said officers did not believe any third party was involved.

The inquest hearings were both adjourned by coroner Derek Winter until Thursday, May 27.
