Inquest opens into death of 26-year-old man after collision on A19

An inquest hearing has been opened into the death of a driver who died in a collision which led to the arrest of a man and a woman.

Dylan Timby, who lived in the Houghton area, died at the scene of the crash off the A19 southbound in Jarrow, just off the layby on the stretch of road between the A185 and the sliproad to the Lindisfarne Roundabout and Leam Lane.

The 26-year-old had been driving a grey Ford Mondeo at the time of the incident at 10.20pm on Saturday, April 17.

South Tyneside and Gateshead Coroner Terence Carney has now opened the inquest into his death and adjourned the hearing for a further review scheduled to take place on Tuesday, June 8, at his office in Hebburn.

Since his sudden death, flowers, messages and other items in tribute have been left at the scene.

They include a bouquet signed by the Guardians of the North, which works to children safe from online grooming and paedophiles, which reads: “Can’t believe you’re gone mate, we are going to miss you, fly high Dylan.”

Another reads: “In our thoughts forever and always” while one says: “Dylan, you were one of a kind, so loving and caring, I will always love you, always in my heart.”

A number of dog toys and messages to Storm have also been left at the spot.

Northumbria Police is continuing to carry out inquiries into the circumstances of Mr Timby’s death and his next of kin are receiving support from its specialist officers.

A 42-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man were arrested in connection with the collision and have since been released under investigation.

Officers have said they had been travelling in another vehicle on the A19 at the same time of the incident, with inquiries looking into how Mr Timby’s vehicle came off the road.

Collision investigators have installed a sign at the spot appealing for help and asked anyone who saw the vehicles in the time leading up to the tragedy or the crash itself to get in touch, as well as anyone with dashcam footage which could help.
