Inquest date confirmed for Sunderland teenager who died after Wessington Way collision

A final inquest hearing date has been agreed for a teenage girl who died a week after she was involved in a collision on a busy Sunderland road.

The road was closed off until after midnight that day as inquiries were launched into the crash, which happened while she was on foot and also involved a car.

Northumbria Police later confirmed the 15-year-old had died on Tuesday, February 25, as a result of her injuries.

Today, Wednesday, January 6, an opening hearing of her inquest was heard at Newcastle Coroner’s Court, which is based at the city’s civic centre.

The hearing was adjourned until Thursday, January 14, when a full hearing will be held.
