An estimated 80 properties in the SR6 area, which covers Whitburn, Roker and Cleadon, were without power since 9.20am yesterday – with power due to be restored at 8pm.

Around 60 properties in the NE37 area, which covers Washington, were without power for almost 24 hours.

There were also two power outages affecting the DH4 area, which covers Houghton and New Herrington, affecting 160 homes.

Northern Powergrid said they were caused by ‘an unexpected problem with the electricity cable’.

Problems have now been resolved.
