Nexus has announced there will be a reduced service on its service after a problem was found during routine maintenance of its new fleet.

People will be hit with delays of up to 25 minutes across the Metro network on Friday, July 10, after an issue was found during routine maintenance.

Nexus said in a statement: “We are operating a reduced service today after an issue was identified with some of our Class 555 fleet during routine maintenance.

“There are gaps in the service on both the Green and Yellow lines of up to 24 minutes.

“We are working closely with Stadler to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and apologise for the disruption this may cause to your journey.”

Passengers are also being reminded that no trains will run between Brockley Whins and South Hylton on Saturday, July 11, and Sunday, July 12.

A replacement bus service – number 901 – will instead run in both directions.

No trains will also run to and from Sunderland Railway Station to allow engineering works to take place.

Network Rail bosses have apologised for “any inconvenience” while stressing that the work will ultimately “deliver significant benefits for passengers”.

The work includes 664 metres of track renewal through both platforms at Sunderland station as well as the complete renewal of eight sets of points to allow trains to switch between lines.

Grand Central services will only operate between Seaham and Hartlepool and London King’s Cross stations.

Rail replacement buses will be provided between Sunderland and Seaham and Hartlepool stations.
