‘Everyone calls me Hulk Hogan’ – Sunderland dad makes £340 for charity with fundraising moustache

Paul Hodgson, from Southwick, came up with a creative way to raise money for the charity during lockdown – by growing a moustache.
His new choice of facial hair led to family and friends nicknaming him ‘Hulk Hogan’ after the famous wrestler, but there was a sentimental reason behind the gesture.

Hide AdPaul’s daughter, Sophie, suffered kidney failure after being diagnosed with E. coli when she was six.
The British Kidney Federation helped to support the family as Sophie, now 26, had dialysis.
Paul revealed why chose to grow a moustache as a way of thanking the charity for their help at a difficult time.
He said: “I just wanted to do something simple as a way of giving back to them for their support.

"When my daughter was ill, I was unable to work and they kept our family afloat financially.”
The Stagecoach worker also explained how those closest to him have reacted to his fundraising methods.
Paul, 49, added: “Everyone now calls me Hulk Hogan but I’ve actually grew it in the shape of my late father’s moustache.”
“The response has been positive and they have all found it very funny, it’s rare for anyone to see me with any facial hair at all.
