Dalton Park says farewell to cafe
A North East designer outlet has bid farewell to another business – just one year after it first opened.
Cafebar 1838, at Dalton Park, in Seaham, closed its doors to the public on Sunday, August 16, after just 13 months in business.
The cafe bar first opened in July 2025 as a “premium” dining establishment and bar – for daytime and nighttime food and drink.
Cafebar 1838 was set up by hospitality entrepreneur David Stein, whose portfolio of successful restaurants and bars across Scotland earned him a loyal following.

Taking to social media, the owners said: “This is not an easy goodbye.
"We want to say a huge thank you to every member of our staff, past and present, for all your hard work, dedication, laughs and memories.
"We simply couldn’t have done it without you.
“And to all of our wonderful customers thank you for your support, loyalty and friendship over the last year.
"Whether you popped in every day or just visited now and then, you’ve all been a huge part of our journey and helped make 1838 what it was.”
The news comes just days after The Hole in the Wand, also at Dalton Park, announced it would be closing on Sunday, September 6.
Richard Kaye, centre manager at Dalton Park, said: “As we continue to evolve Dalton Park, we’re investing in new experiences and additions that will further enhance the destination for our visitors.
"We’d like to thank the Cafebar 1838 team for the part they have played at Dalton Park and wish them every success for the future.”
