College students and care home residents team up to honour fallen heroes on Armistice Day

College students have teamed up with residents at a local care home to create a poppy themed display and decorations ahead of Armistice Day (November 11).

As part of the intergenerational project the teenagers teamed up with residents at Jack Dormand Care Home in Horden.

The Armistice Day decorations include two life-size WWI soldiers created from poppies, as well as soldier silhouettes incorporating poppy drawings and the message ‘Lest we Forget’.

Marie Shillaw, Senior Home Manager at HC-One’s Jack Dormand Care Home said: “We’ve been busy at Jack Dormand putting our hard work on display with our Armistice Day decorations. It’s a small way to honour those who served, and this is just the start.

"We’re incredibly proud of everyone who has helped bring our Remembrance decorations to life.

“Seeing our residents and local students come together to create something so meaningful is truly special. It’s a small way to honour those who served, and we can’t wait to share the full display with our community."

As well as being on display at the care home, the decorative soldiers have also been donated to a local parish church and a veterans group.
