Cabinet Minister and MP praises Sunderland’s women’s health hub

Bridget Phillipson has praised the work of a Sunderland health hub after her visit to the centre earlier this week.

On Friday, June 5, the MP for Houghton and Sunderland South and Minister for Women and Equalities visited Sunderland’s Women’s Health Hub, in Hylton Road, to take a look at the community-based model which is improving access to women’s health services and delivering more joined-up and personalised care.

The women’s health programme was set up by the NHS North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board following the launch of the national Women’s Health Strategy for England in 2022, and brings together the NHS, local authorities and the voluntary sector to address longstanding inequalities in women’s health and improve access to services.

Mrs Phillipson said: “I am so pleased to see all of the great work being done by our local NHS, alongside the Labour government, to deliver vital improvements in women’s health and healthcare.

“For too long, I have heard horrific stories of women who have to fight to be heard.

"It is unacceptable that eight in ten women have said that healthcare professionals did not listen to them.

“I would like to thank the staff at Pallion Health Centre for all of their work tackling medical misogyny and delivering healthcare that works for, and with, women across our community.”

On the visit, Mrs Phillipson took a look around the clinic and services currently in operation, listened to staff, observed service delivery and discussed challenges, opportunities and improvements that could be made to patient outcomes and experiences.
