Brand new folk festival heads to Durham
Members of the public are in for a treat as a brand new folk festival heads to the city.
Durham Folk Festival is making its debut this September after ten successful years as Hartlepool Folk Festival.
Organisers of Hartlepool Folk Festival decided to rebrand and branch out into Durham last year so they could continue to deliver “magical happenings, unforgettable experiences and the very finest in folk music”.
Visitors will be able to enjoy more than 100 performances, screenings, talks, presentations, ceilidhs, family events and workshops across the weekend.

Performances will be taking place throughout the city including Redhills, Durham Cathedral, The Gala Theatre, Elvet Methodist Church, Durham Town Hall and The Prince Bishop River Cruiser.
Following the closure of the Hartlepool Borough Hall, in Hartlepool, back in September, folk festival organisers decided to relocate the festival to Durham where it could continue to grow.
In a statement, organisers said: “Sad as we are to leave Hartlepool, we’re delighted to have found a new home – and what a home.
"From medieval architecture to cobblestone streets, Durham transports you back in time.
"Whether it’s the Land of the Prince Bishops or the beating heart of the Durham coalfield, there is so much to discover.”
Durham Folk Festival is taking place from Friday, September 18, until Sunday, September 20.
Organisers added: “The ethos of the festival in Durham remains the same as it was in Hartlepool – the highest quality folk arts, meaningful local partnerships and a festival that feels welcoming to everyone.”
