Warmer weather can make it easier to get your children outside and active, but visits to events and attractions often come with a hefty entry charge.

9. Souter Lighthouse sports
Location - Souter Lighthouse, Coast Rd, Sunderland SR6 7NH
On Monday May 29 and Wednesday May 31, children and parents can try their hand at a number of different sports in the grounds of the lighthouse. Sports on offer include archery, football, tennis and basketball. The free event will run from 11am to 3.30pm on both days. Photo: Stu Norton
10. Sacriston Party in the Park
Location - The Fulforth Centre, Front St, Sacriston, Durham DH7 6JT
On Saturday June 3, the Fulforth Centre in Sacriston will be hosting a free family 'Party in the Park' to celebrate the arrival of summer. The event will include inflatables, fairground rides, face-painter, cafe, market stalls, raffle and tombola, crafts, sports games, and a birds of prey demonstration.
