Warmer weather can make it easier to get your children outside and active, but visits to events and attractions often come with a hefty entry charge.
To help you make the most of the half-term holiday, we’ve been doing your research for you. Check out the following 10 fun-filled holiday events and activities for children to enjoy most of which are free or a maximum of £2.
5. Shildon Locomotion Museum science shows
Location - Dale Road Industrial Estate, Shildon DL4 2RE

6. Durham University Oriental Museum Awesome Archers
Location - Elvet Hill Rd, South Rd, Durham DH1 3TH
On Wednesday May 31, between 1pm and 3pm, children can take part in an Awesome Archers workshop. Participants in the free event will learn about archers' thumb rings and make a mini bow and arrow set to take home. The event is aimed at children aged 5 to 11. Photo: JPI Media
7. Ryhope Engines Museum Steampunk event
Location - Waterworks Rd, Ryhope, Sunderland SR2 0ND
Between Saturday May 27 and Monday May 29, Ryhope Engines Museum will be hosting the annual Steampunk event with a magician, range of market stalls, fun activities, and wonderful costumes on display. 8. Stack Seaburn

Stack in Sunderland is hosting a number of free children's entertainment events over half-term week. On Tuesday May 30, between midday and 2pm, there will be a celebration of DreamWorks much loved animation, The Trolls.
