Pedestrian taken to hospital after collision with car in Sunderland

A passing ambulance crew came to the aid of a man after he was hit by a car in Sunderland.

The North East Ambulance Service took a male patient to Sunderland Royal Hospital after the incident in Durham Road at East Herrington shortly before 5.30pm today, Wednesday, March 31.

A service spokesperson said: “We were called at 17:28 today to reports of a road traffic collision between a car and a pedestrian on Durham Road in East Herrington.

"We sent an ambulance crew, a specialist paramedic and a further ambulance crew passing stopped to assist.

"We took one male patient to Sunderland Royal Hospital with injuries to the head and neck.”

Bus services in the area were disrupted for around two hours.

Operator Go North East Tweeted that services X20, 20, 55, 35 were all unable to operate between the Board Inn and North Moor Lane roundabouts.

Services have now returned to normal.
