Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue crews from Sunderland Central and Farringdon community fire stations put out the blaze and discovered the body of a man inside the Vauxhall Astra.

The force later confirmed it did not believe there was any third-party involvement in the tragedy and said that the man’s next of kin had been informed.
