Police confirm 'no third-party involvement' in death of man found after Sunderland car fire

Northumbria Police say there is not believed to be any third-party involvement in the death of a man whose body was discovered in the aftermath of a car fire.

Fire crews and police officers were called to Chatsworth Street, Sunderland, shortly before 4am on Wednesday, April 29 to reports of a vehicle fire.

After firefighters from Sunderland Central and Farringdon stations extinguished the blaze, the body of a deceased man was discovered inside the Vauxhall Astra car.

In a statement, a Northumbria Police spokesman said: “Shortly before 4am today we received a report of a vehicle on fire on Chatsworth Street, Sunderland.

Emergency services attended and extinguished the fire. Sadly, the body of a man was found deceased inside the vehicle.

“An investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, but there is not currently believed to have been any third-party involvement. The man’s next of kin have been informed.”
