Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service have released the images after crews from Washington, Birtley and Farringdon dealt with a fire at automotive technology firm Faurecia Systems in Staithes Road in Washington.

An external ISO-container - also known as an intermodal container - which was being used to contain vehicle interior cut-offs was 50% damaged by fire and heat.

Officers used breathing apparatus as they fought the flames and smoke.

The service has said the building was unaffected and nobody was injured in the incident, which happened at 11.30am yesterday.
