Hetton School students went back in in time to the 1920s when they performed the hit musical Bugsy Malone, in what is the last school show before Hetton will get its new school in September. Set in New York, Bugsy Malone tells the story of two gangs comprised of children and their battle over the famous ‘splurge guns’. The show featured well-known songs from the lively Fat Sam’s Grand Slam to the more pensive Tomorrow. The show, which was a huge hit, saw more than 30 students perform over two nights. Both nights were well attend.

A fundraising event in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society took place at the Hut on Moorsley Road, Moorsley, on Friday, January 29. It was organised by the members and friends of Moorsley and District Community Association with a raffle and activities including a tombola and a game of bingo. A buffet brunch was provided and donations totalled £616.66. This is a fantastic amount for such a small community so thanks goes to everyone who attended, donated or supported the event. Organisers also look forward to seeing residents and friends for a drink and a chat during the drop-in mornings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am to noon. Everyone is always welcome.
