Friends of Sunderland Museum (Fosums) will meet on Saturday, February 13, in Sunderland Museum, Burdon Road, at 2pm for their AGM followed by Life in an Elizabethan City, a talk by Edmund Foster. Visitors are welcome, charge £1.

Enjoy afternoon tea in Donnison School , a grade II listed building. Bookings are for six or more and costs £7 per person and includes coffee or tea with scones, sandwiches and cakes also an illustrated talk. Ring 0191 565 4835 to book.

There will be a Chinese New Year celebration at Sunderland Museum on Monday, February 8, from 11am to 3pm (drop in). Celebrate the year of the monkey with Chinese arts and crafts, lion dances and family trails. This is a free activity

Sunderland Pianoforte Society, which meets in the Sunderland Pottery Room at Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens, Burdon Road, will meet on Tuesday, February 2, for its 441st recital at 7.15pm. Pianist will be Alexander Soarez. Full subscription (six recitals) £60, Individual recitals £12.50 accompanied children (16 and under) free, full-time students and those in receipt of benefit, £6. Alexander Soarez, a London-born pianist, is increasingly in demand as a soloist and is a recent winner of the prestigious Royal Overseas League Keyboard competition 2015. The programme will include Bach: Partita No. 5 in G major BWV 829. Debussy: Children’s Corner. Chopin: Polonaise-Fantaisie Op. 61. Schumann: Kreisleriana Op 16.

Look and Inspire: pin-hole photographs of the changing face of Sunderland are on display at Sunderland Museum until Sunday.

A toddler group meets on Tuesdays in Sunderland Minster from 9.30am -11.30am. Refreshments are available.

Sunderland Maritime Heritage will be open to the public every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10am-4pm. Admissions is free. During the winter period it is closed on Saturdays. Go along to the visitor centre on Church Street East to see the extensive library and large scale replica of HMS Venerable plus the work recreating a double capstan, the like of which has not been seen on Wearside for more than 200 years. All are welcome.
