Electricity restored following two power cuts affecting thousands of houses in Sunderland

Thousands of homes were left without electricity after a two power cuts affected the Sunderland area.

Northern Powergrid has confirmed power has been restored to all premises.

The first large-scale power outage on Sunday morning (January 10) saw more than 17,000 homes and businesses in the areas of Houghton, Hetton, Hendon, Ryhope, Silksworth and Pennywell (postcode areas SR2, SR3, SR4, DH4 and DH5) left without power.

The power cut was first reported at 10.48am and electricity was restored to all premises before 12.30pm.

Around 100 premises in the SR3 postcode area were affected later in the day with some people have reporting that Sainsbury’s in Silksworth was among those affected by the outage.

Electricity has now been restored to all affected areas and there are no current power cuts in the Sunderland area. To see Northern Powergrid’s live map click here.
