Sunderland man jailed after attacking police officer

A man has been jailed after he admitted attacking a policeman.

Colin Pearson, 40, of Tatham Street, Sunderland, was initially due to stand trial at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.

But he changed his plea to guilty and has been imprisoned for 10 weeks after the court deemed the offence on November 14 last year “so serious” because of his previous convictions.

Pearson was also ordered to pay £50 compensation, a £128 victim surcharge and £100 costs.

A charge of assaulting a woman on the same date was dismissed.
