Woman charged after allegedly spitting at a police officer while intoxicated in a Sunderland street

Northumbria Police have charged a woman with being drunk and disorderly and common assault of a police officer after they were called following concerns for her welfare.

Officers were called to Peel Street on Tuesday, March 30 after receiving a report of concern for the welfare of a woman.

She was subsequently arrested and has been charged with being drunk and disorderly and common assault of a police officer.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Police received a report of concern for a woman on Peel Street, Sunderland on Tuesday, March 30.

“Officers attended the scene where a woman was found in an intoxicated state. The officers approached the woman to check she was okay but she began spitting at them.
