Washington man admits criminal damage spree after drunken attack on cars

A man who drunkenly attack a number of cars is set to be sentenced after admitting what police have called a “rampage” of damage.

Washington man Ryan Spearman carried out his crime spree in the early hours of Sunday, November 15, and damaged several vehicles in Burnopfield.

The 26-year-old was arrested and charged with four counts of vehicle interference, two counts of criminal damage and being in possession of a controlled drug.

He appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Monday, November 16, where he pleaded guilty to all offences.

Spearman, of Sulgrave, is expected to be sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court on Tuesday, December 15.

Durham Constabulary Detective Inspector Chris Woollett, said: “This behaviour was totally unacceptable and impacted a lot of residents who had their vehicles damaged by Spearman.

“I would like to thank everyone who came forward to report these crimes and reassure residents that Spearman will be dealt with.”
