Wannabe Sunderland cannibal harassed ex-partner after his release from jail

A wannabe cannibal who admitted he wanted to eat parts of his partner and chop her head off has landed himself back in jail for contacting her just weeks after his release.

But the 32-year-old thief was freed back in August and within weeks found his ex, who he blamed for being in prison in the first place, on social media and began to message her.

Newcastle Crown Court today heard how Farrell sent a long apology to his victim, from Sunderland, via email and declared his love for her.

Prosecuting, Jake Bowman read excerpts of the message, which was also sent to the victim via Facebook as he tried to follow her on other social media platforms.

“I think about you every day, I dream about you every night,” Mr Bowman read to the court.

“No-one can stop me from contacting the only woman I have and will ever love.

“I just wanted to hurt you the way you hurt me.

“I can't do it, being out without you.”

A moving victim impact statement read to the court illustrated the victim's fear of Farrell and his actions.

It read: “I still live in constant fear he may find me and harm me in ways I cannot imagine.

“It is clear that even after prison he is still obsessed with the idea of controlling me and my life.

“I hope George never finds me and that he will leave me alone forever.”

Defending, Jason Smith spoke of how Farrell suffers from “serious” mental health issues but conceded his breach of a restraining order was “deliberate”.

Farrell, formerly of Houghton-le-Spring and later of Westmoreland Road, Newcastle, admitted three counts of breaching a restraining order and one of harassment.

“You must give her peace,” Recorder Bryan Cox told Farrell, who appeared via video link from prison.

“She doesn't want anything to do with you.”

The recorder sentenced Farrell to 16 months in prison.

During his trial in 2022 at the same court, it emerged Farrell had spoken of chopping his partner’s head off.

He also said he would kill his mother and daughter so they wouldn't have to know the person he had become.

Farrell denied making threats to kill and claimed things he said had been “misconstrued” but was found guilty by a jury.

Speaking at the sentencing hearing for that offence, Judge Amanda Rippon said: “I am quite satisfied when he said it, he meant it.

“If he had been free to hurt her she would have been in serious difficulty, serious trouble.”

She told him: “You told people in the room you were going to kill her by eating parts of her and would cut her head off and take it to the police station so you could be sentenced for something you had actually done.”
