Two men accused of Penshaw murder of Sean Mason appear in court

Two men accused of murdering a Sunderland dad in Penshaw will face a trial later this year.

Sean Mason died in hospital after he was allegedly assaulted at a block of flats in Penshaw.The 55-year-old had been found with serious injuries after police were called to Avondale Avenue in Penshaw shortly after 3am on Saturday, May 16.Steven Milroy, 47, of Avondale Avenue, and Wayne Froud, 36, of Wensleydale Avenue, both in Penshaw, are both accused of his murder.During a hearing at Newcastle Crown Court on Wednesday June 24, where both men appeared via video link, Froud pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.Milroy was not asked to enter a plea to the offence at this stage.Judge Paul Sloan said a trial, which could take up to three weeks, will be listed to start on November 17 but is subject to change.A further pre-trial hearing will take place on August 14.
