Teenager charged with assaulting officer after police chase near A19 at Murton

An 18-year-old man has been charged with assaulting a police officer while a 22-year-old has been charged with being in possession of a controlled drug.

Durham Constabulary’s road traffic officers were involved in a pursuit with a 4x4 near the A19 in the Murton area at around 2.45pm on Thursday afternoon.

Officers followed the car to a field where two men were detained by officers and arrested.

A spokesman for Durham Constabulary said: “Our road traffic officers were involved in a short pursuit with a 4x4 near the A19 near Murton at around 2.45pm on Thursday.

“Two men decamped in a field and were detained by officers.

“An 18-year-old was arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer.

“A 22-year-old was arrested and charged with being in possession of a controlled drug.”
