Suspect named and charged after alleged Sunderland glass bottle attack
A suspect has been remanded in custody after a man was rushed to hospital with serious facial injuries following an alleged glass bottle attack.
The casualty, who is in his 50s, was taken away by ambulance on Thursday morning after emergency services were called to Park Lane, in Sunderland city centre, at around 1.50am.
Northumbria Police said a suspect was arrested shortly afterwards in connection with their inquiries.
They have now confirmed that Ian Hume, 38, of Tunstall Road, Sunderland, has been charged with wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

Hume appeared before North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court on Friday and was remanded in custody to face a judge on Friday, August 14, at Newcastle Crown Court.
A police cordon remained in Park Lane, close to its junction with Holmeside, during Thursday daytime as officers continued their investigations.
A force spokesperson said at the time: “At about 1.50am today, Thursday, we received a report of a man injured in the Park Lane area of Sunderland city centre.
“Emergency services attended where it was found he had sustained injuries consistent with having been caused by a glass bottle.

“The man, aged in his 50s, was taken to hospital for treatment of serious facial injuries.”
Paramedics also attended the incident and spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) said: “We were called to a person injured in Sunderland city centre at 1.49am on 16 July.
“We dispatched an ambulance crew, who took one patient to hospital for further treatment.”
