Sunderland pair face trial after pet Akita allegedly injures two other dogs and person

A Sunderland couple have appeared in court to deny charges of allowing their American Akita dog to be dangerously out of control.

Chloe Alderson, 25, and Christopher McGuigan, 34, both of Marley Crescent, Marley Potts, now face a trial after pleading not guilty at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court on Friday, August 28.

They are jointly charged with allowing their dog, named Cole, to be dangerously out of control in Mulberry Avenue, also Marley Potts, on Tuesday, March 10.

Prosecutors claim that Cole injured a dog walker, who required hospital treatment, and his spaniel Sam.

McGuigan faces a second charge of allowing Cole to be dangerously out of control, also in Mulberry Avenue, on Sunday, May 24.

Alderson and McGuigan were granted unconditional bail to appear at Gateshead Magistrates’ Court for trial on Monday, November 16.
