Photographs seen by the Echo emerged yesterday afternoon showing several police vehicles and police officers in white clothing outside of Filthy’s on Stockton Road in Seaham. The police presence was confirmed to the Echo by a local shopkeeper who said that police officers were “at the scene for about an hour”.

Coinciding with the police presence, Filthy’s posted a statement on social media yesterday (September 5) confirming they were unable to open.

The statement said: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, we’re unfortunately unable to open this morning. We’re currently working with the relevant authorities and, as soon as we’re given the all clear, we’ll be straight back open and serving the Filthy scran you love. Sorry for the inconvenience, everyone. We’ll keep you updated as soon as we know more.”

The latest statement posted by the deli yesterday afternoon confirmed they were operating a delivery only service with a restricted menu and that the bar remains “closed to the public until further notice”.

We contacted Durham Constabulary yesterday and are still awaiting their response.
