Motorist charged with drink-driving after car hits roundabout in Sunderland

A Sunderland man has been charged with driving whilst above the alcohol limit following a collision in the city over the weekend.

Northumbria Police officers were called to Park Avenue on Saturday, October 10 following reports of a single-vehicle collision, which the force says happened at the roundabout with Chichester Road.

The driver – a 23-year-old man from the Sunderland area – was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

In a statement released on Monday, October 12, a spokesperson for the force confirmed that the man has now been charged.

They said: “Shortly after 8.30am on October 10, police received a report of a single car collision on Park Avenue, Sunderland.

“It was reported a car had collided with the roundabout at the bottom of the road.

“No injuries were reported however, the 23-year-old male driver was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

“He has since been charged with driving whilst above the alcohol limit.”

The man will appear at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court next month.
